I'm Jonathan, a 15-year-old Grade 10 student at William Lyon Mackenzie CI.
This year, I became involved in activism as a provincial organizer of Students Say No, the movement fighting against Doug Ford's education cuts. As a provincial organizer, I wrote guides and speeches for our organization, helped run our Instagram, spoke to hundreds of students from across Ontario, and helped run our school registration system. I had incredible opportunities such as being able to lead a protest at my school, doing interviews with media from throughout Ontario, speaking with provincial politicians, and even getting to speak in front of over 20,000 people at Queen's Park alongside the rest of the SSN provincial organizing team.
My experience as a provincial organizer made me realize how much I can accomplish by working to make my voice and the voices of other students heard. It made me realize that even though students

Hi! I’m Alara, I’m 16 from the lovely Ward 8, and I’m a passionate advocate for youth and the power of their voice.
So often we hear about new laws and regulations taking place that directly affect the Canadian youth, yet no one ever asks us about our opinions on improving these initiatives.
We, young people, are the leaders of tomorrow; I want to engage young citizens in political discussions to ensure that we grow up to become informed citizens who can create positive changes in our communities.
I moved to Canada seven years ago from Turkey, a country where freedom of speech, gender equality, and democratic values were not priorities. I would have never imagined that I could apply to be a part of the Youth Council and have a platform that represents youth and the importance of their voice.
I’ve never felt more welcomed in a city yet also free to fight for what I believe in. I want every young person in Ward 8 to feel the same. Toronto’s our home and it’s given us so much; applying for this role is my way of thanking it back :)
Let’s be friends! My insta is @alarakarahan_. You can also find me at any bubble tea shop 24/7.
Dear Friends in Ward 8,
Hello! My name is Jessica Xiong and I am a grade 10 student at Havergal College running to be your youth councillor for Eglinton-Lawrence.
I am running to be your youth councillor because Eglinton-Lawrence is a very important place to me: it has given me so many valuable opportunities and surrounded me with a community of diverse and amazing people. I care about my community and giving back is something I constantly strive to do.
Granted, each community comes with certain problems that its citizens must strive to fix, whether it is TTC reliability or affordable child care spaces. There are countless citizens with innovative solutions and ideas, yet many, especially youth voices, do not get heard. As your youth councillor i promise to always be available to listen to your concerns, opinions, and questions. Furthermore, i want to increase transparency and outreach so that more members of the community have the opportunity to become involved.
If elected, I will not just strive to do my best, but the best for all of you.
