Olivia Dey
This is Olivia Dey. I am a Grade 11 student, Water polo coach and athlete. I am here with a mission to empower each and every youth in my community with a sense of sportsmanship, belongingness and inclusiveness. Ward 25 is one of the most diverse community in Toronto. Lots of us are first and second generation immigrants. Being an immigrant is not an easy job. Most immigrants have their heart wrecking stories behind. They have their own challenges to make Canada their home. They could be from the war wrecked Syria or poverty-stricken Somalia. Being a second-generation immigrant, I feel proud of being a part of this diverse community.
Unlike our previous generations we are more diverse, connected and socially engaged. In spite of that there are youth who are facing challenges everyday to find jobs, suffer from social exclusion and bullies, mental health challenges and addiction. I need you to come together with me and help these youth. Its sad but true that even though our youth are more socially and civically engaged they are less likely to vote. But that’s one of the ways to be heard. I am in a mission to have your voice heard. I promise that I will listen to your concerns and response to you in timely manner.
As a young leader I believe in change and I trust that the change can only happen through our youth community because they are not just our future but also our present.
As the representative of all youth in Ward 25, I promise to have your concerns addresses. I made my mission to build a generation of empowered youth who can make difference in our community.
Please join me in my journey.
