Fellow youths of Willowdale, Have you been trying to dive into your deep study mode when the evening traffic invades through your windows and catch you off guard? Have you been dreaming of being eco-friendly by cycling to school though no routes or guidelines are clearly in front of you? Have you been feeling remote to the decision-making in Toronto’s mindmap? I have, so I want and I need to directly speak up about such concerns! My name is Fei Wu, and I am more often known as Sophy Wu, a Grade 10 student and a three “O” girl --- optimistic, outgoing, overachieved (sometimes). I am also a passionate and dedicated choreographer, dancer, environmental protection volunteer, and advocate for a sustainable urban lifestyle. I am from a highly modernized southern city in China: Shenzhen, where the subway system is at cutting-edge technology and the greenspace design is integrated into every district. In comparison to these aspects, Toronto definitely has a long way to go. Why did I come here then? For the education, the diversity, and most importantly, the right and freedom to speech as a youth. It’s only been two years and I have already felt the vibrancy of youth voice right around us. I received great feedback from my classmates on my final project in Civic course was on the topic of youth voice for environmental sustainability in Ontario; I led groups of Ontario Nature Youth Council members to write and send letters to Ontario ministers; I met younger students holding banners when I spoke at the Climate Action Rally on April 15. By presenting myself as a candidate for the position as City of Toronto Youth Councillor, I am prepared to hear you out to create visions for our neighbourhood together. In addition, I will commit my best possible contributions to the council and support for other councillors. In the spirit of youth power, Fei (Sophy) Wu Please feel free to contact me at (416)809-9735, at firstname.lastname@example.org, on Facebook @FeiSophyWu or on Instagram @sophywusy Highlight Language Skills: Native Mandarin + Fluent English + Proficient French + Conversational Spanish
Dear friends in Willowdale,
My name is Emma Zhou and I am a grade 10 student at Branksome Hall.
I hope to be your youth counselor because I believe that our voices are incredibly important since we are all the leaders of tomorrow.
My past experiences have given me the essential stepping stones in helping our community become a better place. I participated in the Ontario Page Program in grade 7 where I served the MPP's at the Legislature for two weeks and learned about the basics of government. I was also a part of the Ontario Model Parliament program this year where I debated bills in a real-life simulation in the Chamber. Lastly, I have been on the Willowdale Youth Council for the past two years and volunteered for our MPP for community events. These skills that I have developed as a National debater and public speaker along with the numerous times I have been involved in politics will aid me in becoming the youth voice of Willowdale.
